Natural Building at MAMA TREE

We see natural building as an extension of our regenerative practices

Natural building connects us to ancestral wisdom while offering sustainable solutions for our modern world. These time-tested techniques incorporate locally available materials like clay, sand, straw, and wood to create beautiful, durable structures that work in harmony with our environment.  These methods not only reduce our environmental impact but also create healthier living spaces and stronger communities.

SATURDAY JUNE 6 & SUNDAY JUNE 7

Well House Natural Building Workshop

Join for one or both days to learn how to use clay, sand and straw to build earthen walls using monolithic cob and wattle-and-daub building techniques onto of a rock foundation for our timber framed structure.

Natural Building in Our Climate

Southern California's unique climate presents both challenges & opportunities for natural builders.

Our workshops emphasize techniques that:

  • Manage heat through thermal mass and natural cooling
  • Handle seasonal rains effectively
  • Work with local materials
  • Meet local building codes and regulations
  • Create fire-resistant structures

Our Team's Experience

Abudu

Abudu is an Earth tender, forest gardener, natural builder & artist who seeks collective health & liberation through conscious practice, education, & relationship. He is also the Seed sower of Akwaaba Urban Food Forest Garden. He spends most of his days working in community at MAMA TREE and tending to the cycles of life on Chumash lands in the Ojai Valley.

Natalie

Natalie has been an avid natural builder since first getting her hands dirty at Quail Springs in 2013. After that experience she was hooked and did an apprenticeship on a cob house build at Spirit Pine in 2015. She has had her hands and feet involved in numerous small homes and earthen ovens since
