Learn to make natural walls with the old ancestral technique of Wattle and Daub, the application of Cob on a wooden frame.
Wattle-and-Daub and Cob?
At MAMA TREE, we’re all about exploring timeless, earth-friendly building techniques that bring us closer to nature and honor traditional practices. Wattle-and-daub is an ancient construction method that combines woven wooden frameworks (the “wattle”) with a natural plaster-like material (the “daub”), creating a strong, breathable wall. The daub is often made from a mix of clay, straw, sand, and water, which makes it akin to cob, another traditional building material.
Cob is both a material and a building technique in its own right. Cob stands on its own as a sculptable material for building freestanding walls or even entire structures. Whether you're patching up a daub wall or sculpting a cob bench, natural building techniques use earthen materials to create beauty, function, and connection to the land.
