Kids Handcraft Camp

Knitting Handcraft Camp

About:

Handwork is an artistic genre that encompasses many medias. Common medias include knitting, crochet, sewing, embroidery, wet felting, needle felting, cross-stitch, natural dye, woodworking, and more. Over the course of our week together, participants will make and customize their own knitting needles and project bag that will be used to work on making a variety of small knitting projects.

When: Monday, July 7th through Friday, July 11th 9:00am - 2:00pm.

Who: 1st - 7th Grade children. This is a drop-off day camp, but parents can attend with their child at no charge. If parents would like to participate in crafting, they can pay for extra materials.

Cost: $300 per child includes all instruction. Materials are not included and $45 will be paid by Venmo directly to the instructor.

Rhythm of the Day:

Arrival: Greeting and free play to allow space and grace for all to join for the day

Short walk: Short walk around the farm to ground and welcome the day

Morning circle: Age appropriate songs and game, followed by morning snack

Handwork circle: Beginning with a story or verse we will begin work on the day’s projects

Lunch: We will break for lunch and eat together under the shade of our heritage walnut tree. No food is provided, parents must pack lunch for their child

Tea time and goodbye: Song will guide us into transition to teatime followed by a short period of free play and our hike back to meet families

Rhythm of the Week:

Day 1: Individuals will be guided through making their own knitting needles and begin work on a sewing kit and project bag. Having a simply portable sewing kit and project bag is important for organization, portability, and finishing up many knitting projects.

Day 2: Individuals will use their hand created knitting needles to begin casting on and knitting simple small projects, such as a bunny. If individuals are not versed in knitting they will be gently guided through basic techniques.

Day 3- 5: Individuals will continue working daily on their personalized projects. Adaptations and modifications would be made and offered for slower and faster workers
