Two Day Workshop: Saturday and Sunday, June 7th & June 8th, 2025
Reconnect with the timeless wisdom of building with earth. Together we'll explore how our ancestors created beautiful, durable structures using the materials beneath their feet - clay, sand, straw, and wood.
Lunch and snacks will be provided. A hearty vegan lunch will be provided on both days. Please bring a water bottle and feel encouraged to bring your own snacks. We recommend eating a full breakfast ahead of the workshop to fuel your hands-on building.
Overnight accommodations not included. Please plan to stay with friends, at local campgrounds, or other accommodations if needed. We hope to be able to accommodate camping in the future, but are not yet permitted to.
What will we be building? During this hands-on workshop, we'll work collectively to build an indoor / outdoor classroom and gathering space, incorporating different natural building techniques like cob, and wattle-and-daub, using locally gathered materials when possible. Stay tuned for more information.
Registration opens soon. Please sign up for our newsletter to be notified when registration for this opportunity opens, and share this page with a friend to invite them to join.
Founded by Sasha Rabin in 2013, now run by Sasha and her husband, John Orcutt. Sasha has been teaching natural building since 2002, co-founding Seven Generations Natural Builders and Vertical Clay, and working with organizations like Cal-Earth, The Canelo Project, and Quail Springs. John, a former coral farmer, transitioned into natural building in 2013, studying at Earthship Academy and Cal-Earth before joining Sasha at Quail Springs, where he deepened his passion for sustainable construction.
Fun Fact: Sasha and John of EarthenShelter were Abudu's first natural building teachers at Quail Springs. Abudu is MAMA TREE's resident carpenter and an avid natural builder. Abudu will be assisting to create the foundation and frame the structure, with an informative lesson on the process included in the workshop.
Fun fact: MAMA TREE's farm co-director Natalie once lived in this earthen shelter that Sasha and John helped build while at Quail Springs! Natalie has been an avid natural builder since first getting her hands dirty at Quail Springs in 2013. After that experience she was hooked and did an apprenticeship on a cob house build at Spirit Pine in 2015. She has had her hands and feet involved in numerous small homes and earthen ovens since
