Join our resident Kitchen Witch, Madeline, for a morning of hands-on educational instruction on how to make Goat Milk & Olive Oil Soap using regeneratively farmed, organic ingredients from Mama Tree. Participants will start with a meet & greet with our milk-giving goats and have a chance to try milking them! The group will then explore the orchards where our goats graze and our premium olive oil is grown. We will observe an educational demonstration of our soap making process and break out into groups for hands-on learning. All participants will leave with a bar of Mama Tree Goat Milk & Olive Oil Soap as well as the knowledge of how to make soap on their own.
When: Saturday, November 9th from 8am - 11am
Where: Mama Tree is located in Upper Ojai, less than a 15-minute drive from downtown Ojai. Exact address and driving directions will be sent to you upon purchase and registration. Carpooling is encouraged to reduce traffic and wear and tear on the property.
Who: This is an 18+ adults-only workshop due to the risk of using the caustic ingredient, lye. To keep this an intimate and hands-on learning experience, we are limiting this workshop to 12 participants.
What should I wear and bring: Please wear clothes you don't mind getting dirty. Close-toed shoes and long pants are strongly encouraged. Do bring any other items you may need for weather: i.e. sunhat, layers, water bottle, snacks, etc. If you happen to have gloves or protective goggles (for lye handling), please bring them! Protective gear will be provided.
Cost:
This includes the price of the educational instruction, brief tour, and 1 bar of Mama Tree Goat Milk & Olive Oil Soap. The pay-it-forward tier allows us to continue offering scholarships to folks in need. If you are in abundance, please consider paying it forward to others in need.
Scholarships: Financial assistance is available - if the price of the workshop is barring your participation, please email us at mamatreeojai@gmail.com.
Schedule:
8:00am: Arrival
8:15am: Opening circle & brief orientation
8:30am: Hands-on goat milking
9:00am: Goat herding, tour of our native plant garden, and olive grove
10:00am: Goat milk soap instruction & hands-on participation
10:45am: Closing circle
11:00am: Departure
Late Arrivals: If you come late, you are welcome to still join us, but given our goat’s daily schedule we cannot ensure the goat milking experience for any late arrivals.
Weather: If the weather is not too extreme, we will still tour the grounds so please come prepared with rain gear. Due to the caustic nature of lye, we will still be outside, but it it’s too rainy, we will hold the workshop in an indoor-outdoor working barn.
Refund Policy:
A 90% refund will be provided upon cancellation if we are notified 1 week in advance (11/2/24). The 10% not returned accounts for the GoDaddy processing fee as well as our registration fees. We can provide a refund of 50% up until two days before the workshop begins (11/7/24). However, due to preparation expenses, we are unable to provide a refund if a cancellation occurs within two days before the workshop begins.
Details are sent out upon RSVP. We look forward to having you!
